1. Mt Hotham

2. Mt Buller

With more than 300 hectares of ski slopes and three hours away from Melbourne, Mt Buller is a favorite spot for snow fans in Victoria. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, there are slopes for everyone. Mt Buller has the biggest lift system in Victoria, with 13 chairlifts, two T-bars, two rope tows, and three magic carpets. There are also three terrain parks and two places for tobogganing. Don’t worry about the weather because Mt Buller has snowmaking machines.
When you’re not skiing, snowboarding, or tobogganing, you can try an Australian Sled Dog Tour. Meet the huskies, take pictures with them, and enjoy an exciting sled ride. If you don’t want to go on a tour, you can still meet the dogs. These tours are really popular, so make sure to book in advance.

3. Lake Mountain

Lake Mountain is just a bit over two hours away from Melbourne. It’s the closest ski spot to the city. Even though it’s called Lake Mountain, there aren’t any lakes there; it was named after a surveyor. But you’ll find lots of snow in the winter, and there are activities for everyone.
There are more than 30 kilometers of trails to explore. You can go tobogganing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing around the mountain. There are special areas for tobogganing where they make fake snow, and there’s also a free area where you can slide on real snow. You can buy tickets for a tube ride, too. Sadly, you can’t snowboard on Lake Mountain.
It costs $64 to get in during winter if you’re driving a car. It’s a good idea to buy your tickets early so you don’t miss out. This year, there won’t be any shuttles from Marysville, so you’ll need to drive yourself.
You can grab some hot food and drinks at the bistro when you’re there. But you can’t stay overnight on the mountain, so if you want to stay longer, you’ll need to find a place to stay in Marysville.

4. Mt Stirling

Want to escape the crowds at Mt Buller? Mt Stirling is just 30 minutes away and it’s the perfect spot. It’s the only alpine resort in Victoria with a natural summit, so you can enjoy the snow in a wild setting.
There are more than 68 kilometers of trails all over the mountain, and 35 kilometers of them are great for winter fun. You can explore beautiful forests of alpine ash trees and snow gum trees. Try snowshoeing or cross-country skiing and take in the stunning views. You’ll find cozy huts around the resort, like Craig’s Hut, which you might recognize from The Man From Snowy River movie. If you’re up for it, you can even camp in the snow. And don’t worry, there’s a team of Ski Patrol experts to keep you safe.
Kids will love playing in the snow area and sliding down the toboggan slope. There’s also a ski school to help you learn, and you can rent equipment there too. And when you’re feeling hungry, head to the café for a warm drink and some yummy snacks.

5. Mt Baw Baw

Only about two and a half hours from Melbourne, Mt Baw Baw has lot of snow terrain, about 35 hectares, and 10 kilometres of cross-country ski trails. You can stay overnight or just go for a day trip.
They have all sorts of fun stuff to do, whether you’re a beginner or a pro. You can ski, snowboard, go cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or tobogganing. They also offer lessons if you’re new to skiing or snowboarding. And if you forget your gear, don’t worry, there are shops in the resort village where you can rent equipment.
While you’re there, don’t miss the Dingo Resource Centre. You can even book a Winter Dingo Encounter and meet Rowdy and Warragul, the resident dingoes. It’s really cool to learn about these native animals!

6. Mt Donna Buang

For first timers to snow, Mt Donna Buang is a perfect place to try it out. It’s near Warburton and just a two-hour drive from Melbourne, so you can easily go for a day trip. Plus, since it’s part of the Yarra Ranges National Park, there’s no entry fee.
Once you’re up at the summit, which is 1245 meters high, you can enjoy amazing views of Melbourne, the Yarra Valley, and other nearby mountains. You can play in the snow, build a snowman, and go tobogganing. You can rent toboggans at the summit or in Warburton. 7. Falls Creek

The journey to Falls Creek is long, about four and a half hours from Melbourne, but it’s totally worth it. This alpine resort has the biggest area for skiing in Victoria, with 450 hectares of land. 8. Mount Buffalo

9. Dinner Plain

If you go to Hotham then Dinner Plan is not far from there. It is just 10 minutes from Mt Hotham. During the snow season, there’s a shuttle bus between the two places.
In the cozy alpine village, explore historic cattlemen’s huts. Enjoy 35 kilometers of groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, surrounded by magical snowgums and scenic views.
